National Contract Management Association
East Tennessee Chapter
April 21, 1999
Mary Berry called the meeting to order at 11:40 a.m.
The Officer and Committee update/status reports were as follows:
Program: Judy Franklin reported that either Holly Warwick or Bob Poe are possible speakers for May. She will check on having a signed baseball for a door prize. Mark Williams will check on Phobe Lewis membership application sent to Karen Shears. The speaker for the meeting for June will be James Gallager.
Education: Nothing to report.
Historian: Beth Holt is still organizing. Gaps in the data still exist. Beth requested albums for pictures. Motion was approved to spend $25.00 for albums.
Newsletter: Connie Bayless has volunteered to do the newsletter, since Donna Waddells retirement. Connie reviewed the newsletter mailing list and will be sending e-mails announcing that this is the last newsletter. Connie reported that newsletters will be out the first week in May. Steve Hodges stated that we need a slate of officers in the newsletter this time.
Membership: Mark Williams reviewed the membership dropped and delinquent list. He will send an e-mail to Beth Shad regarding membership. There are three members to add: 1. Richard Kent Foster, 2. Alfred Howard, 3. Roger Ouellette. Connie Bayless passed along address changes to Mark Williams. Mark reported that there were 185 members as of March 31, 1999. The goal for this year is 190. He added that four new members that signed up at NES have not yet been counted. Nineteen members are delinquent. Mark Williams requested volunteers for the directory. Mark will submit an article in the newsletter on when the directories are due.
Graalman: Everyone welcomed back Debra Hickman. She stated that she has a lot of catching up to do. She will start by tracking events in the newsletter. Debra inquired if we have any CPCM or CACM study groups. She needs the average attendance list of membership meetings. There is a catch all category where we can gain points for accomplishments not covered anywhere else. Mary Berry encouraged Debra Hickman to put an article in the newsletter soliciting input for Graalman. In order to include presentations conducted by members, she must have an attendance list, agenda etc. to submit. Professional activities was a problem area last year on the Graalman submittal. Steve Hodges reported that Brian Harrington has provided courses at three other chapters. We submitted an article to Contracts Magazine on Broad Spectrum. It will be published next year. Mary Berry will follow up on it. We also get points for our web site development. NES: Robert Madgett reported that NES had a good turn out, Penne Howard was great. There were seventy eight attendees and 2 speakers. The chapter grossed $11,710.00 and brought in four new members. We had mixed reviews. Mary stated that some had valid complaints. The microphone did not work and we had to turn off the air conditioner to hear. Eight rated it fair and everyone else rated it good to excellent. Overall it was a good NES. 43 attendees filled out the survey. Discussed followed that the title was not applicable because the material was not "Innovative". Maybe next year we can bring in a local person to present. There was some discussion that this may be a requirement to utilize the nationally listed instructors. We may raise this issue at the Southeast Regional Leadership conference in Orlando, June 5th. The chapter will pay for half the cost to attend the class. Check on the cost.
Wattec: Mary Berry will get Connie Bayless a Wattec write up. Mary will ask David to submit an article at the end of the year.
Certifications: Mike Criss is in Germany for 2 months.
Scholarship: Mary Berry reported for McArthur Moore. Beverly Harness assisted in the selection. Two people were selected.
President: Mary Berry said that Steve Hodges will hold elections at the May meeting. At the June mtg. we will give door prizes. Mary will host a luncheon at the last board meeting.
Mary adjourned at 12:45.
